Does gel polish or acrylic ruin your nails?

Nothing you apply to the nail should damage your nails. This comes down to application and removal. If this is done correctly your nails should only get better and better. Nails do not breathe, they are made up of dead keratin like your hair is. Most of the time it can be the technician being rough and/or cheaper products containing unknown ingredients that can cause nail damage. Another big thing is removal. As the gel is adhered to the nail, if you are peeling it off you are causing damage to the nails resulting in long term weakness, flaking and surface damage.

What do I need to do before coming in for a spray tan?

It is best to do an exfoliation the day before to remove any dead skin build up to result in a beautiful even tan application. We also recommend you wax or shave 24hrs before. The day of your tan it is best to leave the skin bare with no moisturiser or deodorant applied as this can effect the tans colouring and form a barrier.

How long should gel or acrylic last for?

This can vary from person to person. Generally between the 2-3 week mark is normal for any nail enhancement. Anything that last under that time frame is not normal and this should not happen. Product chipping at the edges can result from the natural nail flaking underneath the polish causing the polish to come away. Product lifting is generally adhesion issues. Different product brands can suit some and others not so much. This can come down to oily natural nails, hands in water a lot, harsh cleaning chemicals and medication/illness and stress.
